Round Norfolk Golf Tour summer comp 2015. Round 12 at Sheringham

A lovely hot sunny day saw perfect conditions for Round Norfolk Golf Tour summer comp 2015 Round 12 at Sheringham.
Bob getting us underway on the first hole
Despite the prospect of high scoring things got off badly for Kevin who lost nice shinny pro v1's on each of the first two holes and ended up with no points. A mix of good drives and poor everything else led to a lot of front 9 stomping and swearing, more lost balls, 4 blobs and only 11 points at half way.
Kevin hitting, what many people (or him) would consider drive of the day, 300 yrds with draw on the par 4 5th, however a 5 iorn through the back meant he only got 2 pts.
Ian got off to a solid start but then caught Kevin's disease and took to gentle contemplation (sulking) rather than swearing as he could only get to 12 pts at halfway.
One of several putts Ian had on the 4th for a point
Throughout this both Chris and Bob responded well knocking in 3 pointers for fun. They both mangaged to muck up a hole but despite this had 19pts each at half way.
Good 2nd shot from Chris on par 5 (or 4 depending on gender) 3rd hole and 3 pts
As in previous rounds the back 9 was a different story and as both Bob and Chris started to fade as Ian came with a charge up the field. While this was going on Kevin had decided that it would be pars or blobs only for him and had 4 of one and 3 of the other to collect 15 pts on the back 9. His 26 pts from the 11 hols he actually bothered to score on was quite a good return but still put him in a comfortable last place.

Meanwhile with two holes to play the other 3 players had all got to 27 pts and suddernly upped their game. Bob was first to crack on the 17th where both Ian and Chris made the most of their extra shot getting 3 points each while Bob only got 1 point after going in a bunker. Due to faulty breaks his trolley followed him in. He was let off the 26 shot penalty for grounding all his clubs in the bunker as things moved on to the last with Bob complaining that he can't compete against all these extra shots the others had. Other players could only think about pots and kettles.

Both Ian and Chris decided to putt their drives on 18 before Ian had a couple more duffs and then put a good shot into the green side bunker to finish with no points on the hole. Bob hit a great second shot to 3 foot from the pin for a birdie chance. Chris got on the green and inside Bob in 4 shots. So, if you are still following this, if they both sunk their putts it would be a tie.

With nerves of steel Bob sunk his birdie and the Chris pooped in her putt for a share of the first place prize (£1.75 each).

No new course record today which is currently 35pts shared by Kevin and Chris from 2013 and there are no actual changes on the overall competition board either although after today it has tightened up a bit with Bob taking 4 shots off his eclectic.

Next week is off to Sprowston for the start of the best front and back 9 in July, August & Sept comp before the British open at Thorpeness the week after.

Round Norfolk Golf Tour summer comp 2015. Round 11 at Richmond Park

Wednesday saw round 11 of this years Round Norfolk Golf tour revisit Richmond Park for the first time since 2013 when John set the course record with 34 points. With conditions for the day looking perfect and a field of 4 it suggested that record would not last for long.

Kevin was first up on the opening hole and smacked his opening drive straight out of bounds causing much swearing, stomping and an opening hole blob. Although his tee to green play was in order three missed short putts ended up with him in last place with 13 pts at halfway.
Kevin chip to 6th leading to 2 points
Bob was having a typical Bob round with some great golf sprinkled with some disasters and 14 pts.
Bob's shot to 4th green was a little wild
Ian was playing solid scoring on every hole. The highlight being a 4 point birdie on the 3rd however too many scrambled 1 pointers meant he only had 18 pts after 9 when it could have been more.
Ian chipping on to 4th for a 1 pointer
while Bob and John continue to search for Bob's ball, it was never seen again
John was going along nicely and collecte points on every hole giving him a front nine lead with 19 points.

It looked like John and Ian would be competting for the prizes but it was all change on the much shorter and tighter back 9.

Unfortunately John left his golf game on the otherside of the road as he racked up 4 blobs and could only add 9 points to his total for 28 pts in all. He had to give himself a good telling off on several occasions.

Bob, on the other hand, started very consistently scoring 2 pts on the first 5 holes to bring him back into contention. However 3 blobs on the last 4 took him back out of the running and he finished last on 26 pts.

Meanwhile Kevin started to improve despite missed opportunities by 3 putting the first two holes. However it all changed when his teeshot hit the flag on the 12th and he sunk the putt for 4 pts leading to 20 back 9 points as he set a 33 point target.
Kevin birdie putt on 16th which he hit too firmly right off the green
and nearly into the river so was very happy to still get 2 points.
Ian continued to score on each hole but again was having to scramble well to get the points. On 6 of the holes he only managed a single point and with a blob on the last could only add 11 points for a total of 29 and second place.

So surprisingly John's course record remained in place, and more surprisingly Kevin has won 5 of the last 6 rounds taking him to the top of the money list and unable to whinge about handicaps and bad luck.

Next week is on to Sprowston where Bob holds the course record with 37 pts.

Round Norfolk Golf Tour summer comp 2015. Round 10 at Kings Lynn (US open)

A disappointing field of 3 had entered the second major of the year (US Open) at Kings Lynn, which was a new course on this years circuit.

The course was very busy as it was lady captains day so there were several groups following the competitors. This seemed to put off Chris who only managed 5 pts in the first 6 holes although then recovered to have 12 at the end of the 9.
Chris Driving into trouble on 4th for a blob
Kevin had his wayward driver in the bag and was fortunate on several occasions to find his ball in the woods and score well. However his luck ran out a couple of times and cost him 2 front 9 blobs and 15 pts.

John started badly with a blob on the first but soon got into his stride to recover with 16 pts and the half way lead.

Chris was much more solid on the back 9 but too many missed putts meant she only added 15 pts for 27 overall and third place.

It was ding dong between Kevin and John but a run of 1 pt in 3 holes from John gave Kevin the advantage.
John in difficulty on 14th leading to a blob
Kevin was scoring pts on each hole but a birdie on the 10th was cancelled out by four 1 pointers. Coming down the last he held a 3 point leader over John but drama was not over yet.
Kevin admiring long teeshot on 12th for a par and 2 pts
John sunk a long putt on the last for an excellent par and 30 pts. This left Kevin with a nervy foot putt for the point needed to win but John sportingly conceded it and the title went to Kevin.

Kings Lynn proved to be an excellent venue and the big £5 prize moved Kevin to the top of the money list (although he is only player to have played in each comp).

Tour moves on next week to Western Park or Richmond Park or Bawburgh depending where a tee time is available before mid day.
