Round Norfolk Golf Tour summer comp 2019. Round 6 at Cromer

The Crab Classic at Royal Cromer

Robert, Jo and Sandie headed out in the first group on a sunny, warm day at Cromer.
All smiles at the start of a trip to the seaside
Jo had the better start with straight drives enabling her to record 6 points on the first 3 holes helped by a superb par on the 3rd. She continued to play well and another par on the par 5 6th gave her the group lead on 16 points at the turn.

Sandie could only manage one 3 pointer on the front 9 and with far too many 3 putts the greens proved a problem, finishing the front 9 with 2 blobs and only 11 points.

Robert had a slow start, a few dodgy shots and one or two bunkers causing problems. However he pulled back with a brilliant birdie for 4 points on the 5th, and a 3 point par on the 9th giving him 15 points.

The back 9 didn’t improve Sandie’s game, too many bunkers and a bit of gorse, gave her 2 more blobs. Two shots to the green and at last only 2 putts on the 18th gave her a good finish but only 23 points.
Not one of Sandies better days at Cromer
Jo was striking the ball well and had a good back 9 but it was a mix. Two blobs on the 14th and 17th were compensated by 4 pars on the 10th, 12th, 13th and 16th. The bunker short right of the green on the 18th meant she only collected 1 point on the 18th but finished with a well earned 32 points.

The other Barnard, Robert, also had a good back 9, also with 2 blobs, the 12th and 15th. But another 4 point birdie on the 10th set him up for a good finish. A well positioned tee shot earned him 3 points on the Par 3 13th, and 3 Pars in a row on the last 3 holes earned him 8 points to finish.  A happy face and 19 points on the back 9 saw Robert top of the group with 34 points.

The trio of Kevin, Bob and Chris were second out and the game turned into a competition between the Chaps for the top place plus an ambition of a course record.

Chris has two steady halves of 16 points each with her 3 blobs meaning she could not challenge for the group win ending with 32 points.
Chris appears to be teeing off the 6th hole in the wrong direction but actually was a chip on to the 10th.
As she had people watch she got up and down for a useful par
Kevin and Bob had only 1 blob each but Bob’s 7 pars and 1 birdie  (39 points) edged out Kevin who had 8 pars in his total of 39 points and a course record.

Bob was again on fire with more points on 11
The last group out were Jill, Greg and Mike. Jill was driving exceptionally well and with 4 three pointers and her only blob coming in the front nine totalled 17 points which she equalled on the back nine giving her a total of 34 points.

Greg started with a strong 3 points but from then on he developed a touch of the lefts with his drives. A loss of two balls on the 8th hole was undoubtedly caused by his emphasis on the tee of his concentration on a construction of a Vietnamese style stilt house using a number of tees to prevent contamination of his beautifully prepared bread roll! His front nine of 13 points and a steady 16 on the back nine gave a total of 29 points.

Mike did nothing to show he could match the leaders with 15 points on the front nine, which could have been better had he realised he received a shot on the 5th and not picked up. His back nine was an unambiguous 14 points and a total of 29 to match Greg.

The day had been most enjoyable with clear warm weather enabling Robert, amongst the men, the only one to air his legs. After the distribution of winnings, mainly to Bob, who received the adulation of those present with typical modesty, talk turned to handicap reviews. However, it was decided that “Dinosaur” should be the arbiter and responsible for any rule changes, so we shall await his decision.
